[ regardless of the progression of the show, or the matches that took place, Jen's excited. events with any kind of crowd are always like that for her. of course, she's usually not in the audience for these things, but seeing things from the sideline has its own appeal.
when they pass through the doors of the bar, Jen is still laughing off May's suggestion for a new career path for her.
for the umpteenth time... ]
Look, look, I get where you're coming from! But my mom would absolutely pile-drive my ass if I even thought about it. I wouldn't even have time to be worried about the competition!
-May was just glad she made it to the finish. Going over was just the bonus, really. But hey, you don't cut your teeth in Japan without learning how to think on your feet and improvise a match if it was needed. Still, she felt more busted up than usual... a month out of practice will do that to a person, she supposes.-
See, that's why I'm suggesting you work a masked character gimmick. She'd never know, right? -Considering she was barely around as it was.-
Seriously? Look at — [ she spread her arms out, nearly knocking into someone else. one apology and a pat on the back later, her attention is back to May. ]
What was I ...? Oh yeah! Look at me. There's no way to hide all this from the public. I'm unique. [ that's usually her way of sugar-coating talking about her arm. but then she flips some of her hair over her shoulder with her robot arm and grins. ] I'm a walking shampoo commercial.
one of these days i'm going to remember she has a new name in this au
Bull Nakano only wore facepaint and no one recognized her in public for decades. You're fine. -Satsuki waved off the concern, signaling to Felicia to get her usual. One for Jen, too.-
But fine, but fine. I'll easy up. -For now.- Anything interesting happen in your end of town now that all the people are back?
Yeah, actually. Going to set up a beach volleyball game for this year's celebration. Kinda short notice but turns out people are excited for some real action.
[ Jen rapped her knuckles against the bar, waiting on her o.j. and ice. ] Hoping to turn some heads out there, as always.
Feeling performative, are we? -May gets her drink with relative quickness, holding it sort of tenderly as she picked it up. Damn, her shoulders felt like she got hit by a truck...-
Gonna need an ice bath when I get home... -Satsuki sighed, letting out a small groan.- This is what I get for not hitting the ropes during my impromptu month off.
Not stretching out is the real killer. Ice baths... still sound too intense for me. [ Jen set her drink down and stepped in behind Satsuki, resting her left hand atop her shoulder and giving it a little squeeze. ]
...damn, girl, feels like you've got steel wires in there.
Yep. Super strength helps some with the recovery process, but my body's still very much human and still has human problems. So I can just get tossed on my back, shoulders, collided with from all sorts of angles for 16 minutes and shrug it off, yanno?
So, ice bath, a good night's sleep, and you're back to the mats in the morning? Heh. You're crazier than I am. [ of course, if she was rocking whatever force was keeping her from getting mashed into a bloody pulp by that egg robot last year, Jen would be singing a different tune. ]
Do massages still work normally for you, or do you like, need someone to take a jackhammer to your back to feel it?
I didn't say "no"! [ that was a little too quick. dammit Jen. ] I mean... maybe not in the middle of the bar, you know? I don't want to make any of your fans jealous.
[ sweating internally. time to slip back over to the seat and take a long gulp of her nice, cold drink. ]
[ the wince sold her on the idea. Jen shrugged, herself, casually. ] Wellll.... I can't just leave you all in pain, can I? What kind of friend would I be?
[ all that talk is more or less to convince herself. she moved back behind Satsuki's chair and this time using both her hands, she applies a bit of pressure on her muscles. the metal of her right hand is relatively cool but will warm up quickly. ] Let me know if it's too much, okay?
Sure thing. -Satsuki set her drink aside, leaning against the cushion of the bar as Jen started to work. Oh she was... better at this than she said she was. That or anything felt good on her poor battered shoulders. Either way, she let out little happy sounds, the soreness already feeling soothed away...-
[ fortunately for Satsuki, Jen has picked up a few things from trainers, masseuses, and ex-s. (even if the latter techniques are definitely meant for private quarters...)
even better is how she can simply command her right arm to mimic the movements of her left in stride since, outside of pressure, it can't feel to the same fidelity as a human hand could. a shame now, most of all. ]
Don't you fall asleep on me. I don't want to have to carry you home. [ well. she could. ]
[ her robo-fingers twitch at the compliment. ] Ah-hah. Well... My own schedule's kinda full for that, you know? [ that was such a poor excuse. Jen can feel the lameness exuding from every word. ] I wouldn't mind it every now and then. You would have to pay me back, of course!
-Satsuki was so lost in bliss she didnt notice the twitch at all. Even the lameness of Jen's excuse fell on deaf ears, for once. But she did give a small, keening whine.-
Can't you make more time for me? We don't get to hang out as much anymore... I want massages and hugs that aren't going to turn into suplexes. Suplays. That word.
Souffle? [ Jen chuckled at her joke but kept right on massaging. ]
I ... should. It's just tough since I've got this strict training schedule I'll start up soon, you know? Mom really wants me to make the best impression I can when I try out for the team in the fall.
[ to say the regimen was "strict" was underselling it. her whole day, save for a few hours and some breaks here and there, were planned out. from what she ate, and how many reps she did, to how many hours she could sleep. missing a few beats here there wasn't a big deal, but too much slacking and her mom would probably yank on her chain again.
everything is banking on Jen's success, and her mom has no patience for rogue elements. much as Jen hates to think of spending quality time with people as such. ]
