[ He wouldn't get very far, at least. The only entrance to the ship that was accessible, the port-side door on one of the ship's wings, was locked tight, and the palm-reader panel next to it was unlikely to accept Hiro's hand print as valid entry ID. Thankfully, he wouldn't be waiting too long before May's voice struck out on the intercom. ]
Ahoy, matey! Gimme a minute to get down there and greetcha at the door, eh?
[It's rude to break into someone else's ship, so that's for the best. He looks up upon hearing her voice and he grins brightly while taking a step back.]
Yeah! I'll be waiting. [He has no idea if she can hear him, but he figures an answer is better than nothing. He'll just bound his way over to the door and (im)patiently wait.]
[ The door's latches sounded soon enough, the heavy door pulling open and May standing with a wide smile on the other side. ]
Come on in, kiddo. I'll take you right to engineering. [ She said, handing him a flashlight. ]
Most of the lights won't turn on until main power is up and running again. [ And yet there was power enough to run the intercom and the apparently electronic lock... ]
[The flashlight's immediately taken and he gives her a questioning look.] And how long have you been living in the dark? [But he'll follow her lead and shine the flashlight around as they go, trying to get a sense of the ship itself and where they're heading.]
Living quarters ain't dark, son. It's engineering that's pitch black. No lights save for the back-up lights and no portholes.
[ The design of the ship's interior matched the outside well enough. Bulkheads lined the hallways, though there was some attempt to make the whole thing less drab and militaristic with some paint, including guide arrows that moved along the lower part of the inside wall that guided along to various places in the ship. The yellow line lead to Engineering, by the label. ]
The primary reactor engine is what powers most of the ship, but basic life support and lighting for living spaces is on a separate generator. But this thing's been here awhile with no need for actual fuel of any kind. I run the lights, charge my phone, work the security functions, even open and close doors, without ever having to gas up that secondary generator. And for the longest time, I couldn't understand why...
So whoever designed the ship actually planned for back-up energy. That's good to know. [He's still taking in everything he sees and processes what May says.] The good thing is that once we get the primary engine going it should stay functional.
[ May hummed as she lead Hiro along, eventually turning on her own flashlight as she reached the door to Engineering, quickly spinning open the wheel that sealed the door shut, letting it slowly open. ]
See, in the other me's world, that's something folks seemed to figure out.
[ She shined her light further into the engine room, the light catching the words "MANA REACTOR" in nice, big letters, with... quite a bit of warnings underneath the sign but they seemed to have been spraypainted over with the words "just let novel fix it!", apparently to discourage the crew members from trying to ever mess with the reactor. ]
[Mana. It sounds like something you'd read in a story and even with the light shining he drifts closer and into the engine room for further examination.]
Unfortunately I don't have magic on me. I'll have to use my hands, but yeah. I've heard of it. Any idea what mana means in that world? It's a pretty loose term when it comes to magical property. I think.
You ain't gotta use magic. I've, apparently, got plenty to spare right here. [ She patted her hand against her own stomach. ]
All I need for you to do is figure out how you hook me up and get this thing running. I figure the moment it's got some energy in it, the reactor will do the rest of the work.
[But right, fine. He'll have to take a look at this reactor and see how to get it going, see how mana applies and what physical pieces he can fix himself.] If you've got a manual that'd be great, otherwise I've got a few tricks I can try.
[The first, of course, is shining a light in the right direction and seeing if there's anything else glaringly wrong here.]
Not absorbed, I apparently just have a whole bunch in me. They call it "ki" and only, like, east asian people can use it? Look, I don't think the other me cared about the details and I sure don't either.
Point is, I've got a ton inside me. It's the whole reason I'm super strong.
I have a lot of questions suddenly but I think I'll save them. So how can you channel it out so we can use it then? That's the only question I care about here. Unless you can, like, superpunch your way into shoving ki somewhere else.
If this reactor ever went out of balance and shut down like this, Novel had a method of basically using me as a key to start the ignition again. I'm sure she's got it written down in that manual.
[ May shined her light near where Novel's work station was and well... therein lied the biggest problem.
The thing look like a hurricane ran through it. ]
She had a kind of... controlled chaos thing going on.

So... What do you think about magic, kid?

Like in general? I think there's a ton of people who have it and I don't really understand how. I've been trying to study it since I got the app. Why?
